Next Fest Is a Multiplier, Not a Miracle: How to Back-Plan for It

The autumn Next Fest is a developer’s last shot at a certain kind of momentum — and each game gets it once. The common failure is treating it as a launch-day event. It isn’t. It’s the magnification of momentum you already built.

The nodes, counted backward:

  • Demo ready well before the fest. If your demo isn’t playable when the event opens, you’re invisible.
  • Media preview window. Outlets preview ahead of time; brief them early or you’re not in the roundup.
  • Sign-up cutoff. Miss it and you’re out entirely.

The truth the algorithm teaches: it pushes what already has motion. A page with a thin wishlist and no buzz gets skipped, no matter how good the game. A page that arrived with an existing audience gets amplified.

So the work isn’t “prepare for the fest.” It’s “arrive at the fest already moving.” Build the wishlist in the months before; the fest then multiplies what’s there. Show up cold and the multiplier has nothing to multiply.
